The Self-Esteem Tag

accomplish eso

Hello everyone! How are you doing today?

I feel like I’ve been so busy lately that this blog has taken a hit and not been given my full attention, so I will try my best to be on it over the next few days! My cousin’s birthday get-together is tomorrow… but other than that I’ll make sure to give you all more posts this week! 🙂

Long story short… I am absolutely dreading tomorrow… my uncle’s sister always invites herself around to family gatherings when she’s not wanted and belittles everyone in her path. If you haven’t got a PhD in snobbery or met the queen, then you’re not worth anything in her eyes. It’s sad that she judges people on awards and certificates (that collect dust) rather than the personality and kindness of a person instead. But I guess it wouldn’t be a family get together without hiccups right? I’m sure everyone can relate to this in one way or another!

Anyway…for this tag I’ve been nominated by the very creative Laura. I’ve been following her blog for quite some time now and she always comes out with lots of thought-provoking and beautiful stuff. Be sure to follow if you haven’t already 🙂

Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you & link to their blog
  • Answer the 10 questions
  • Nominate & tag as many people as you’d like

Answers

What is one facial or physical feature you like most about yourself?

That would have to be my eyes – lots of people say how blue they are and even assume I’m wearing contacts from time to time. Or I guess I could say my legs because of how incredibly long they are, but it can be frustrating not being able to find jeans long enough, so I’ll stick to eyes 🙂

What values are most important to you?

I guess I would say being able to trust someone really close to you. Having being let down in the past by the ones you love makes you realise how important reliability is. Showing compassion and caring towards others, and of course being able to laugh with friends is super important too 😛

What is one personality trait that you like most about yourself?

Probably the fact that I’m very determined to succeed. I really want to have a good future and will do pretty much anything (other than screwing people over) to get it. I would consider myself a caring person too – being loyal to the people who are always there for me is something that comes naturally.

What is your definition of beautiful?

People with amazing personalities. It’s such a cliche, but looks will eventually fade, your personality won’t. I absolutely love kind, intelligent people that aren’t afraid to have a laugh on occasion. The people that will ring me up at 3 am and come over to check that I’m okay, or the spontaneous trips out to go crash a party, go jet skiing, or travel up the coast. You get the idea…

What is the last thing you did that made you smile or laugh?

I had to think then because it feels like a while since I’ve laughed properly. Watching Basil on Faulty Towers a week ago was funny for me. I followed the programme when I was little and staying the night at my granddads – the series is so light-hearted and hilarious at times! 🙂

That’s all for now folks! Hope you’ve enjoyed reading and I’ll be back again tomorrow with the other half of this post and my nominees. Goodnight and sweet dreams ❤

Sunshine Blogger Award 002

Screenshot_20170704-001621.jpg

Hello lovely people! How are you doing?

I’m back again with another Sunshine Blogger Award – I’m honestly not quite sure how this keeps happening, but I will say I am incredibly grateful. I was nominated for this award by the brilliant Logan, who is on an amazing once in a lifetime trip across America and posting about his exciting daily adventures. Please go and check out his blog if you haven’t already, he gets up to some really interesting things that I believe everyone should try at some point in their life! After all, life is too short right? 🙂

So without further ado…

My answers:

1.What is the best vacation you have been on?

Okay, this is going to be pretty much the same answer as one in my previous liebster awards, when I mentioned the last time I felt free 🙂 The guy I was in a relationship with at the time took me on holiday to Florida and we stayed in his apartment on the beach. I honestly couldn’t have felt more in love or much happier at that point in my life and I will always treasure it as my favourite holiday ❤

A close second would be the time I went to New Zealand with my mum and Granddad, it was one of the last holidays I spent with him before my granddad passed away and it was so nice. Even though he couldn’t swim in the sea with us when we went swimming with the dolphins, he was always watching and spending as much time with us as he could ❤

2. Have you ever experienced a natural disaster?

This is a good question because as I read this I kept trying to rack my brain to think if I have ever experienced anything that bad. I have felt the odd earthquake either in New Zealand or in England, but they have been around 3 in magnitude – which I understand will sound like nothing to everyone else living in other parts of the world. We did however, actually have some horrific flooding near to where I live last year. There is a main river flowing through an area called Sowerby Bridge, that completely flooded the entire first floor of houses. It became so bad that firefighters had to come out in boats and take people to safety one by one. Thankfully, they’ve improved the flood barriers this year though 🙂

3. What is the most hilarious thing that has happened to you?

Hmm I’m not sure if embarrassing is included in this but I’ll give it a try haha! So a few years ago now, I decided to do my Duke of Edinburgh Award because I really enjoy walking and it also looked like something good to put on my resume. After 15-20 miles of daily walking or so, my team and I had to camp out and hence tried to entertain ourselves at night with truth or dare etc. Somehow I was landed with the dare of making loud sex noises in the middle of an open valley. I had got as far as a few seconds in when I looked up to see the face of my college supervisor stood about 10 metres away from me! I was absolutely mortified! The team and I couldn’t stop laughing for the rest of the expedition haha!

4. Have you ever been robbed (can be online or real life)?

Thankfully I never have, no. *touches wood*

5. What would you do if you saw a lion in your house?

Be completely petrified and run away probably haha! Seriously though,  that might seem like a frequent thing in other parts of the world, but in England I would either think that the tablets I’m taking are having a bad effect on me, or someone has spiked my drink! If the lion was real, that would be AMAZING – but I’d still stay on the other side of a door/window to it until RSPCA came.

…and I’m going to continue the rest of my answers tomorrow night! I’m really busy at the minute so I’ll see you tomorrow 🙂

4 Things you never knew about Harry Potter!

monster-book-of-monsters-eso

Evening all! How are you doing today?

The 20th Anniversary!

As many of you may have realised, today marks the 20 year anniversary of the debut Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as you know it in the U.S.! I therefore thought I’d briefly break off from telling you about my trip to Paris and mention a few facts about Harry Potter you probably didn’t know. I’ll hopefully be back again with Paris tomorrow though!

I don’t know about the rest of you, but as I am 21 years of age, almost 22 now, I grew up completely surrounded by Harry Potter. I loved reading the books, watching the films, and my sixteenth birthday coincided with the deathly hallows premier. I invited all of my friends to the cinema to watch and had the best time. I even remember when I was younger, the illustrator of the books came to my local town and my friends and I stayed up until midnight for the latest edition and a signing – it was such a craze for us! Anyway on to the good stuff…

5 things you never knew about Harry Potter:

1. Robin Williams wanted to play Hagrid

The famous Mrs Doubtfire star had a very strong desire to read lines as Hagrid, but this was not meant to be as Rowling had a strict rule on ‘no American actors’. Unfortunately the star did not live to see the day of Fantastic Beasts – who knows what the alternative film would have been like otherwise.

2. Daniel Radcliffe admitted to substance abuse whilst filming

Even though in his late teens Radcliffe was drinking at a legal age, he clearly classified his behaviour as ‘reckless’ and was frequently blackout drunk. He eventually decided to seek help in 2010 and has had little drink since.

3. Rowling has been sued three times (unsuccessfully) for copyright infringement!

Two authors have attempted to sue for claiming that Rowling has falsely copied their work. The first being ‘Larry Potter’ (sounds like a parody right?) and the second, ‘The Adventures of Willy the Wizard’. In both cases, the court ruled in favour of J.K on the basis that the names and stories do have similarities, but it is not enough to be classed as infringement. Last but not least, a Canadian band ‘Wyrd Sisters’ fought WB and Rowling against the inclusion of a band called ‘The Weird Sisters’…. and again, lost the court case.

4. Nicolas Flamel was a real historical figure

Okay, this part I’m really happy I stumbled across because it ties in with my posts about Paris. Nicolas Flamel was actually a real Parisian citizen and a pretty wealthy one at that! He was also a very successful scribe and lived in Paris in the 1300’s.

Shortly after his death however, myths spread that he was a secret alchemist and had created a mythical stone that could turn lead into gold. This was in 1418 and long before any of the films had been recorded!

Hope you enjoyed reading this. I absolutely loved growing up surrounded by the Harry Potter books. What was your favourite book growing up?

Sunshine Blogger Award Part 2!

Screenshot_20170623-232022

Hey everyone,

So as I mentioned yesterday I have been nominated by the fantastic Hussein Allam for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Make sure you go check out his blog and my answers to the first half of this award!

My answers continued:

5. If you have millions of dollars what are you going to do with it?!

Jump up and down for joy and probably swim around in it haha 😛 But seriously, the first thing I would do is donate around 20% of it to charities, particularly cancer research and brain tumour research, which are very close to my heart. Then about 60% of it I would invest, and the remaining 20% would be used to buy holidays, new homes, cars, phones etc. for all my close friends and family!

6. Do you smoke?! If so why😄

No, I don’t.

7. What is your background?!

Wow haha! Where does a person even begin with a question like this?! I guess you could say I’m a bit of a science nerd. I’ve just graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences and been working as a Microbiologist until a few months ago when I became unemployed and travelled the world a bit more. I’ve been desperately trying to break the social pressures of been chained to a nine to five job every day and that’s why I initially started this blog – that and so I could keep a diary of my day to day life. After a while, I’ve realised that I genuinely like talking to all of you and so hopefully plan to continue for a while!

P.s. As the name suggests, I absolutely love travelling! I wish I could do it every day and have a bucket list of everything I want to see.

8. Do you like reading novels?! If yes what is your favourite novel?

Yes I love reading novels! It would take me ages to figure out my favourite one but I’ve been reading Paula Hawkins recently, so I would recommend that. Otherwise, Mark Haddon and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is one that I really enjoyed reading when I was younger.

9. Are you 24 hours online on WordPress site?

No, I’m not on here all the time. I usually come online between 21:00 – 00:00 GMT time to write a post at the end of the day and to talk to you lovely people, or sometimes even earlier if I’m not too busy throughout the day!

My nominees:

Laura

Julie

Sparsha

Pharaoh Maktuk

Mel

Logan

My questions:

  1. What is your biggest regret in life?
  2. Which book has been the most influential on you?
  3. If there was one person, alive or dead you could meet to spend a couple hours with to chat, who would it be and why?
  4. Are you a cat or a dog person?
  5. If you could talk to your younger self, what would you say?
  6. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
  7. What inspires you when blogging?
  8. If you could take 5 items on a desert island with you, what would they be?
  9. At what moment in your life have you felt the happiest?
  10. What genre of music do you enjoy listening to?
  11. What is your biggest secret? ( Don’t worry about sharing anything too personal!)

Please go check out all of my nominees blogs too, they all post about really amazing stuff!

Bye for now!

Sunshine Blogger Award!

Screenshot_20170623-232022.jpg

I’ve been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by the amazing Hussein Allam! His general topics blog shows such an interesting outlook on life and has some really delicious looking Jordanian cuisine on there too 😊 If you haven’t already, please make sure you go and check it out!

Rules

1. Thank blogger(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.

2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.

3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.

4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

My answers:

1.Which part of the world do you live?

Yorkshire, in England 😊

2. What’s your favourite colour?

Hmm that’s difficult… it depends on whether I’m wearing it or looking at it. I would say white if I’m wearing it and magenta purple or blue if I’m looking at it. To me, white looks really pure and slightly more classy. With regards to the purple, my bedroom is painted purple and the blue makes me feel relaxed – like I’m lying on a beach!

3. What’s your real name?!

Haha this is a tricky one for me to answer. For those of you that have been following my blog, I have recently clarified that my name is not Rose Hunter in this post. The reason for this is that in a few of my posts, I have written about personal things which I wouldn’t want my friends or family to read. If you stay tuned however, I may give out details to a few loyal bloggers if requested! Or I may even connect with you via other means like facebook if you wish 😊

4.What is the best dish of desserts you like mostly?

Ooh this is so tricky for me! I absolutely adore chocolate so I would have to say melt in the middle chocolate pudding or chocolate brownie with chocolate ice cream 😊 Although recently, I have visited France a few times and had some delicious creme brulee, so when I go back back in a month I’m going to be ordering this every night!

That’s all I have time for tonight I’m afraid, but I’ll definitely be back tomorrow with the remainder of my answers for this award. Until then, hope you have a lovely evening!

Goodnight 😊

Days out in Durham 2: Browns rowing boats!

Screenshot_20170622-234920.png

Hello everyone

This is going to be a super quick post about my trip to Durham again yesterday. I visited Newcastle in the last few days due to grievance of a dear friend, to see another group of friends, and to catch up with my university careers/masters day services too. Whilst attempting to do all of that, I have a bad feeling I caught something off someone up there, as I’m not feeling too great, hence why I’m going to keep this fairly short. Please do check in with me tomorrow though, as I will be talking about the recent sunshine blogger award I have received! 🙂

My time in Durham

Anyway, for the time being I wanted to tell you about the day trip I had in Durham. The city itself is very quaint and full of small bookshops, cafes, and of course it’s stunning cathedral; some of the many reasons why I enjoy visiting. This time however, I planned on trying out rowing on the river the city lies on: the River Wear. Through walking past many a time, I have longed to be on the water and explore the city from the riverside. Today was the day!

Browns rowing boats: The experience!

Screenshot_20170622-234907.png

Browns rowing boats are a company you can find on the edge of the river, that allow you to rent one of their boats for up to an hour. The boats can fit up to four people in each one and it’s only £6.50 each (or £4.50 for a child) with a £10 deposit, so it was a no-brainer for me to try one. The ten pound deposit is also returned to you at the end of the session when you bring the boat back in to dock again.

Before hoping in the boat, a boatman kindly fixes the oars in place, passes you a map of the wear and tells you to stick to the right-hand side of the river to avoid collisions with others. He then pushes you off the side and you are free to go wherever you wish provided it is within the guidelines of the map. It was so idyllic when we started and something that I haven’t tried in years, so I really enjoyed it. After a while though, the weather turned against us and we were trying to hide underneath a few trees for cover. Our arms were also feeling pretty tired and my hands looked as if they were going to blister. As a result, we headed back to the dock and bumped into some adorable duckling on the way – this was my favourite part!

Screenshot_20170622-234939.png

Overall, I really enjoyed it apart from the weather. I would therefore suggest taking an umbrella when you visit and perhaps a friend with muscly arms that can row for you!

That’s all for tonight. Hope you have a nice evening 🙂

~Rose~
