Stories of Paris: The man who could walk through walls

Hey everyone! How are you doing?

Somehow this week has gone so fast I can’t believe it! The man that my mum was seeing made some pretty awful comments about her and so she decided to end it – it’s definitely for the best. It’s a such a shame I can’t comfort her now I’m going away for a week, but I guess I’ll just have to be there for her when I return 🙂 Other than that, I’m honestly so excited to have a week away! I really need a nice break and it will be amazing to watch my best friend get married whilst we’re out there 😀 Hope you’re taking advantage of the summer holidays too?

I’ll stop rambling on now and get back to the post… here is a really interesting story I heard whilst roaming the streets of Montmartre in Paris…

The man who could walk through walls

On the last day, mum and I decided to explore Montmartre and the area around our hotel. Surprisingly enough we hadn’t had the chance up until this point and so wanted to see some beautiful non-tourist spots. The area of Montmartre is lovely and we soon found ourselves following a guided tour towards Sacre Coeur.

On the way up the hill you can find the famous Dutilleul a.k.a. the ‘passer-through-walls’. The guide started revealing a story about the office worker that developed the ability to walk through walls as his title suggests. The man grew up and lived in Montmartre, only to discover this ability at age fourty three. After seeing the doctor regarding his condition, Dutilleul was prescribed a strong medication and told to make his life more labour intensive – much to his disappointment. He refused the medication and kept his lifestyle reasonably inactive and relaxed, still with no inclination to use his talent.

A few months passed and Dutilleul became infuriated with a new manager at his work. By passing through brick walls, he finally decided to begin playing tricks on his manager’s mind; driving him into an early retirement and mental institute. It doesn’t stop there either – the office worker embarked on missions to rob banks and jewellery stores to make extra cash. He used red chalk to mark ‘The Lone Wolf’ on his crime scenes and then swiftly escape through the wall, making his work the talk of the town. However, this was not enough for Dutilleul; he enjoyed fame as much as his fortune. So one day, he ensured the police caught him and threw him into a cell. Little did they realise that he used his ability to frustrate his jailers and repeatedly escape.

The story ends with Dutilleul beginning to secretly date and fall in love with a married woman, whom her husband locked in her room every night. Thankfully, this did not stop the couple and Dutilleul used his power to visit his lover every night. Until one morning when he experienced a bad headache and took two pills from inside his bedside cabinet. His headache went away, but later that night a sudden resistance prevented him from walking through his lover’s door. The story recounts that the pills Dutilleul had in fact taken, were the ones the doctor prescribed many months ago. He realised his mistake far too late and slowly became trapped inside the wall, where he remains to this day.

Really hope you all enjoyed reading!

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS!!

 Screenshot_20170716-235033.png

Hey everyone!

Sorry it’s been a while, but I’ve been celebrating my birthday this weekend! I finally had my hair done a slightly more blonde/caramel colour yesterday and went out for tapas too. Today has been even more crazy with all the family coming around for a huge meal and cake. It’s been so nice to see them all again now they’re back from their holidays and I’m so thankful for everything they bought me as well 🙂

So…yeah…I’ve realised I will have to update my age on these pages, but I’m officially 22!! 😀 *insert overused Taylor Swift reference regarding my age here*

How has your weekend been? and what was the best birthday present you’ve ever received?

Sunshine Blogger Award 002 continued…

Screenshot_20170704-001621

Hello lovely readers!

So as I mentioned the other day I have been nominated by the amazing Logan for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Make sure you go check out his blog and my answers to the first half of this award!

My answers continued:

6. What is a (or the) habit that you need to break?

Not taking every minute of life as it comes at me. I feel like the amount of time I spend wasted either on social media or sat at home doing nothing is incredibly frustrating for me. I really want to try and get myself out there to see and do as much as I possibly can, because I don’t think a lot of people realise how short life is and I don’t want to die with any regrets. I would much rather die regretting something I did than didn’t do.

7. Who is the smartest person you know?

I’m assuming this doesn’t include famous people otherwise I could just say Stephen Hawking or Einstein etc. Similarly, it depends on whether you’re judging someone’s intelligence on the ability to pass exams or their ability to succeed in the outside world and be able to socially interact well? But I would say one of my mentors at university. He is incredibly intelligent alongside being a lecturer and has published a few of his own papers on coral reef biology. He’s a really cool guy!

8. Who is the funniest person you know?

Hmm that would be Ethan, my boyfriend 🙂 He always finds cute little ways to crack me up and make me smile.

9. If you could start a world- famous company what would you what would you sell?

Believe it or not, that’s actually something I plan on doing in the future. I really want to set up my own biology based genetics company, so unfortunately that’s for me to know and you to find out later! 😉

10. What is the funniest fail of a lie anyone has attempted on you?

This would be going back to my boyfriend again when he made an absolutely hilarious mistake on a trip out one day. I had finished my exams and so we went for a celebratory trip out to Edinburgh, where we had a quiet stroll through the gardens there. He pointed over in the distance and said ‘Awh look there’s a cute little squirrel sat on the grass’, and I looked and could see wings on the side of the object. I kept saying to him, ‘that’s a bird’ and he was saying ‘it’s a squirrel’. It was a bird. So to this day I’ve made fun of how he struggles to tell the difference between the two – he laughs along of course!

11. Would you rather never be able to say anything or need to say everything you think?

Tricky one, but I would say need to say everything you think. If everyone else was in the same boat and you were unable to say anything at all then that would mean music wouldn’t exist either? and I can’t live without music. Plus, even though it would get you in a lot of tricky situations, I think everyone would adapt overtime.

My nominees:

Jess

Kris

Spice in the Box

Laura

Shayra

Audrey

Phil

  6. What is a (or the) habit that you need to break?
  7. Who is the smartest person you know?
  8. Who is the funniest person you know?
  9. If you could start a world- famous company what would you what would you sell?
  10. What is the funniest fail of a lie anyone has attempted on you?

Sunshine Blogger Award 002

Screenshot_20170704-001621.jpg

Hello lovely people! How are you doing?

I’m back again with another Sunshine Blogger Award – I’m honestly not quite sure how this keeps happening, but I will say I am incredibly grateful. I was nominated for this award by the brilliant Logan, who is on an amazing once in a lifetime trip across America and posting about his exciting daily adventures. Please go and check out his blog if you haven’t already, he gets up to some really interesting things that I believe everyone should try at some point in their life! After all, life is too short right? 🙂

So without further ado…

My answers:

1.What is the best vacation you have been on?

Okay, this is going to be pretty much the same answer as one in my previous liebster awards, when I mentioned the last time I felt free 🙂 The guy I was in a relationship with at the time took me on holiday to Florida and we stayed in his apartment on the beach. I honestly couldn’t have felt more in love or much happier at that point in my life and I will always treasure it as my favourite holiday ❤

A close second would be the time I went to New Zealand with my mum and Granddad, it was one of the last holidays I spent with him before my granddad passed away and it was so nice. Even though he couldn’t swim in the sea with us when we went swimming with the dolphins, he was always watching and spending as much time with us as he could ❤

2. Have you ever experienced a natural disaster?

This is a good question because as I read this I kept trying to rack my brain to think if I have ever experienced anything that bad. I have felt the odd earthquake either in New Zealand or in England, but they have been around 3 in magnitude – which I understand will sound like nothing to everyone else living in other parts of the world. We did however, actually have some horrific flooding near to where I live last year. There is a main river flowing through an area called Sowerby Bridge, that completely flooded the entire first floor of houses. It became so bad that firefighters had to come out in boats and take people to safety one by one. Thankfully, they’ve improved the flood barriers this year though 🙂

3. What is the most hilarious thing that has happened to you?

Hmm I’m not sure if embarrassing is included in this but I’ll give it a try haha! So a few years ago now, I decided to do my Duke of Edinburgh Award because I really enjoy walking and it also looked like something good to put on my resume. After 15-20 miles of daily walking or so, my team and I had to camp out and hence tried to entertain ourselves at night with truth or dare etc. Somehow I was landed with the dare of making loud sex noises in the middle of an open valley. I had got as far as a few seconds in when I looked up to see the face of my college supervisor stood about 10 metres away from me! I was absolutely mortified! The team and I couldn’t stop laughing for the rest of the expedition haha!

4. Have you ever been robbed (can be online or real life)?

Thankfully I never have, no. *touches wood*

5. What would you do if you saw a lion in your house?

Be completely petrified and run away probably haha! Seriously though,  that might seem like a frequent thing in other parts of the world, but in England I would either think that the tablets I’m taking are having a bad effect on me, or someone has spiked my drink! If the lion was real, that would be AMAZING – but I’d still stay on the other side of a door/window to it until RSPCA came.

…and I’m going to continue the rest of my answers tomorrow night! I’m really busy at the minute so I’ll see you tomorrow 🙂

Where have I been?!?

beach heart eso.jpg

Hello everyone!

So sorry it’s been a couple of days since I’ve posted, but I’ve had a few other things on my mind…I’ve actually really missed you and missed being able to post and can’t wait read my friends blogs in the morning! (English Morning) 🙂

Health checks

As I’ve posted about before, I have a few health problems that I have checked out every three months and it was my time to go back and see the haematologist again. He mentioned that my haemoglobin count is still far too high for a woman and I therefore have a form of polycythemia. In addition to that, I apparently have an enlarged blood vessel to my heart, so as a result I am being sent to a cardiologist to have a echo taken of my heart and chest.

I’ve now been for several blood tests too, to the point where my arm is incredibly bruised! When I walk down the street and people see my arms, they either assume that A) I’ve been in a fight or B) I’m a heroin addict. So it’s all fun and games for me haha!

Updates

The second reason why I’ve disappeared is because I’ve attempted to update my blog a little bit. I’ve updated the theme and finally created an about and contact page, so that you can get in touch with me! I also attempted to alter the theme a few times before realising you had to use the colour theme or font provided – oops! I will say that I am completely lost when it comes to customising, so I would really appreciate it if anyone has any feedback or tips for me!

Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

4 Things you never knew about Harry Potter!

monster-book-of-monsters-eso

Evening all! How are you doing today?

The 20th Anniversary!

As many of you may have realised, today marks the 20 year anniversary of the debut Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as you know it in the U.S.! I therefore thought I’d briefly break off from telling you about my trip to Paris and mention a few facts about Harry Potter you probably didn’t know. I’ll hopefully be back again with Paris tomorrow though!

I don’t know about the rest of you, but as I am 21 years of age, almost 22 now, I grew up completely surrounded by Harry Potter. I loved reading the books, watching the films, and my sixteenth birthday coincided with the deathly hallows premier. I invited all of my friends to the cinema to watch and had the best time. I even remember when I was younger, the illustrator of the books came to my local town and my friends and I stayed up until midnight for the latest edition and a signing – it was such a craze for us! Anyway on to the good stuff…

5 things you never knew about Harry Potter:

1. Robin Williams wanted to play Hagrid

The famous Mrs Doubtfire star had a very strong desire to read lines as Hagrid, but this was not meant to be as Rowling had a strict rule on ‘no American actors’. Unfortunately the star did not live to see the day of Fantastic Beasts – who knows what the alternative film would have been like otherwise.

2. Daniel Radcliffe admitted to substance abuse whilst filming

Even though in his late teens Radcliffe was drinking at a legal age, he clearly classified his behaviour as ‘reckless’ and was frequently blackout drunk. He eventually decided to seek help in 2010 and has had little drink since.

3. Rowling has been sued three times (unsuccessfully) for copyright infringement!

Two authors have attempted to sue for claiming that Rowling has falsely copied their work. The first being ‘Larry Potter’ (sounds like a parody right?) and the second, ‘The Adventures of Willy the Wizard’. In both cases, the court ruled in favour of J.K on the basis that the names and stories do have similarities, but it is not enough to be classed as infringement. Last but not least, a Canadian band ‘Wyrd Sisters’ fought WB and Rowling against the inclusion of a band called ‘The Weird Sisters’…. and again, lost the court case.

harry-potter-eso.jpg

4. Nicolas Flamel was a real historical figure

Okay, this part I’m really happy I stumbled across because it ties in with my posts about Paris. Nicolas Flamel was actually a real Parisian citizen and a pretty wealthy one at that! He was also a very successful scribe and lived in Paris in the 1300’s.

Shortly after his death however, myths spread that he was a secret alchemist and had created a mythical stone that could turn lead into gold. This was in 1418 and long before any of the films had been recorded!

Hope you enjoyed reading this. I absolutely loved growing up surrounded by the Harry Potter books. What was your favourite book growing up?

Sunshine Blogger Award Part 2!

Screenshot_20170623-232022

Hey everyone,

So as I mentioned yesterday I have been nominated by the fantastic Hussein Allam for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Make sure you go check out his blog and my answers to the first half of this award!

My answers continued:

5. If you have millions of dollars what are you going to do with it?!

Jump up and down for joy and probably swim around in it haha 😛 But seriously, the first thing I would do is donate around 20% of it to charities, particularly cancer research and brain tumour research, which are very close to my heart. Then about 60% of it I would invest, and the remaining 20% would be used to buy holidays, new homes, cars, phones etc. for all my close friends and family!

6. Do you smoke?! If so why😄

No, I don’t.

7. What is your background?!

Wow haha! Where does a person even begin with a question like this?! I guess you could say I’m a bit of a science nerd. I’ve just graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences and been working as a Microbiologist until a few months ago when I became unemployed and travelled the world a bit more. I’ve been desperately trying to break the social pressures of been chained to a nine to five job every day and that’s why I initially started this blog – that and so I could keep a diary of my day to day life. After a while, I’ve realised that I genuinely like talking to all of you and so hopefully plan to continue for a while!

P.s. As the name suggests, I absolutely love travelling! I wish I could do it every day and have a bucket list of everything I want to see.

8. Do you like reading novels?! If yes what is your favourite novel?

Yes I love reading novels! It would take me ages to figure out my favourite one but I’ve been reading Paula Hawkins recently, so I would recommend that. Otherwise, Mark Haddon and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is one that I really enjoyed reading when I was younger.

9. Are you 24 hours online on WordPress site?

No, I’m not on here all the time. I usually come online between 21:00 – 00:00 GMT time to write a post at the end of the day and to talk to you lovely people, or sometimes even earlier if I’m not too busy throughout the day!

My nominees:

Laura

Julie

Sparsha

Pharaoh Maktuk

Mel

Logan

My questions:

  1. What is your biggest regret in life?
  2. Which book has been the most influential on you?
  3. If there was one person, alive or dead you could meet to spend a couple hours with to chat, who would it be and why?
  4. Are you a cat or a dog person?
  5. If you could talk to your younger self, what would you say?
  6. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
